Falls are common in the elderly. One in four elderly who fall and have a hip fracture die within one year. Falls are the fifth leading cause of death in the elderly. OSPTA Morgantown understands the severity of falls in the elderly. We are committed to developing an individualized falls prevention program to reduce the number of falls.
We use the balance error scoring system, the berg balance test, flexibility, and strength tests to identify those who are at risk for falls. Once we have identified if you are at a risk for falls, we will implement a specific program designed to target the impairments and functional limitations that can lead to falls. Once you complete the falls prevention program, you will be re-scored on the balance error scoring system and berg balance test to see if you are no longer a fall risk. We will educate our patients on a detailed home exercise program designed to prevent falls once you graduate from our facility.
